I worked on a watercolor piece today and played with some different techniques. I wanted to share with you a few start to finish photos.
"Lila" 9x12 on 140lb cold press watercolor paper
Simple sketch Try to use a light hand when sketching for a watercolor piece.
Start of watercolor pencils....
I painted her face with watercolor pencils. Watercolor pencils are a great art tool to use. If you are a beginner or advanced artist they are a fun material to play with. You can use them on cards, to layouts, or fine arts to mixed media.
I used a medium I had sitting around for quite awhile. I finally grew the courage to give it a try. Masking fluid is a medium you can find in the art department of your local arts and crafts store. I used it by covering my face and flower area before I painted her hair. This keeps parts of my painting protected. I had wet on dried painted her face and then did wet on wet for her hair.
A fun technique with watercolors is to use salt with them. Sprinkle salt over wet watercolors, once the paint has dried brush off the excess salt. It creates this great webbed effect. :)
I have a lot coming up this year and wanted to share a few things on the list. I hope you can join me in one way or another. On of the best parts of all of this is meeting people!

Here we go again. After last year's success of Creative JumpStart Nathalie Kalbach decided to organize it once again. We had about 4,500 subscribers join the Creative JumpStart in 2012. Everyone had a blast! So here is the information you will need:
January is approaching--a month that is full of promises, resolutions, and good intentions. January is also a month where we need a breather from all of the family get togethers, holiday parties, and the stress of preparing for a new year.
It’s also time to start creating again. But suddenly there it is, for some of us: that lost feeling on how to start. Here is the cure :)
Nathalie invited a group of wonderful, inspiring and creative ladies and gentlemen from around the globe in the mixed media and scrapbooking world to join together for the Creative Jump Start Summit 2013. We are coming together to show you some ways to get back into the creative groove and how to get your creative juices flowing. We want to share with you "3 Ways to ..." help you jump-start your creativity in 2013.
Let me show you who is participating:
Here’s what you will receive and how it all works:
1. Throughout January we will share videos showing tutorials to inspire you –
2. You will need to sign up for the Creative JumpStart 2013 newsletter HERE and in January, you will receive a daily link and password to unlock the view of the materials as soon as they go live
3. We will also have days where our Sponsors will have a giveaway for you!! On those days you will receive two newsletters.
4. We hope you are inspired after watching the videos and take something away from it all...It's FREE so how could you go wrong. If you would like to donate to the project (to help offset some costs) - check it out here.
So come on—get inspiration from some of the most creative people in the community. What are you waiting for? (Did I mention it’s FREE?)
